How do I use library databases off-campus?

I want to search an EBSCOhost database like Academic Search Complete from my home computer but I keep getting a log in page for KCTCS. Is it safe to enter my credentials? How do I get past the log-in page?

Answer

The majority of resources available on our Databases page can be accessed from your home, the public library, high school, or other off-campus location. If a database is only accessible on-campus it will be noted in the description (e.g. Ancestry).

To access a database from off-campus, click on the link to the preferred database. You will be directed to our "proxy" sign-in page. This page is safe for you to enter your KCTCS log-in credentials and only verifies that you are an authorized user of HCTC library subscription resources.

Enter your KCTCS email and password. You may be required to authenticate using the Microsoft authenticator that you use for other college log-ins like MyPath.

After successfully entering your credentials, you will be directed to the database page. For any error messages received while trying to sign-in please reference our Troubleshooting library guide.
